Elves Stock Shelves with Stacks of Quelf™ Board Games This Holiday Season
Random rules and ridiculous role-playing requests make for high-jinx, low-tech family fun for ages 12 and up.
San Diego, CA – Sept. 7, 2007 – Want to see grandma play leapfrog, little brother speak like a pirate, big sister wrap her face in toilet paper or mom write a poem about her armpits?
Family gatherings are taking an absurdly comic turn this holiday season with the unwrapping of Quelf, a boisterous board game guaranteed to tickle the funny bone of even the toughest tween and teen critics.
Adding a hilarious new twist to the boring old-school board game, Quelf is edgy, entertaining and interactive – a winning combination that might just entice serious gamers to pull the plug on electronic devices.
Created by three funny guys from California, the award-winning Quelf – which means anything random or silly that makes you bust out laughing – is designed to be “crazy, quirky and completely different every time it’s played.”
The game consists of a simple board, timer, die and five colored and categorized cards, including Roolz, Quizzle, Stuntz, Showbiz and Scatterbrainz.
Recommended for ages 12 and up, players choose from wacky characters ranging from The Dude and Super Ninja Monkey to Mrs. Pickle Feather and Queen Spatula.
With the roll of the die, players advance around the board by performing a variety of zany antics such as dancing an Irish jig while singing a children’s song or pretending to be attacked by a swarm of bees while wearing a snorkel and flippers.
“We’re hooked,” says Dr. Greene, the Pediatric Expert for Yahoo!, NPR’s The People’s Pharmacy and the author of the acclaimed book, From First Kicks to First Steps (McGraw-Hill, 2004), “My family has never laughed so hard together playing a game. And what could be better than that?”
According to Wiggity Bang Games CEO and Quelf co-creator Matthew Rivaldi, board games have grown up in the last decade and a new breed of game geared to older kids and adults has hit the market.
“Quelf is a great way for families to spend quality time together and for friends – young and old alike – to have an evening of fun and frivolity,” explains Rivaldi. “The randomness of it is part of the allure for players who will laugh their heads off until they get to the last space on the board.”
The game’s suggested retail price is $29.95 and is available at select Barnes & Noble stores (by Oct. 1, 2007), or online at www.wiggitybang.com.
